Black mud is one type of mud that elephants like to play and bathe in. Normally, elephants will know where the mud is in the forest. Black mud has a pleasant smell, brown to black color, and medicinal value. For example, black mud can be used as an insect repellant that protects the elephant from flies. Black mud also gives elephant better skin because of the minerals found in the mud such as calcium and magnesium. Black mud can only be found in two places in Thailand, Mae Hong Son and here at our Mahout School.
